If you are planning to find ghosts then location is a key issue..

Ghosts can be located just about anywhere but are easiest to find in older properties. Energy gets stuck in old objects, different types of material absorb energy at different rates. Wood has a very high energetic holding ability, this means older wooden floored and beamed houses are the best places for ghosts.

Energy sticks to different materials at different rates, this is a very good rule when picking a room or place to go ghost hunting. Old carpets, furniture and curtains absorb LOADS of energy. It is fairly common to find apparitions sitting on antique chairs then disappearing, we found an amazing one at a national trust property, he was in full period costume and everyone present saw him.

If you are lucky enough to see a ghost then use common sense, if the ghost connects with you or trys to communicate then be cautious.. Active hauntings can be tricky. If the ghost has no awareness and looks blank then you are watching a replay haunting, these are safe and very interesting.

Some ghosts get irritated by people trying to connect with them, this is most obvious in spirits that were affluent when they were alive. In times gone by the class system ruled society, many of these spirits are "above it all".

What you wear is VITAL, active ghosts can see us exactly as we are. Victorian ghosts will connect easily if you are polite, well dressed and respectful. Smart clothes that respect the relevant era are a safe bet. Medieval ghosts are usually very interesting and active, these guys were very superstitious so dont use any rituals or anything that could be seen as witchcraft. Medievals are the hardest to work with and can be quite frightening, they try and scare people for fun.

Our favourite ghosts are pub ghosts, most old pubs have a resident ghost. A simple rule is "treat people as you would like to be treated". Pub ghosts are generally really friendly, they hang around in pubs to be near people and alcohol. There is an underlying issue that would put many people off of drink BUT this part of lifes process. Pubs with good vibes are fantastic places to see ghosts. Pubs that have a bad atmosphere, violence or regular fights are DANGEROUS to go ghost hunting in. Common sense is needed and stay sober!!! Pub ghosts are clumsy to work with and usually possess someone by accident, this can be frightening for that individual.

Only connect with energy/ ghosts when a trained energy worker or healer is present. You may not be able to see what is going on, its very easy to take these energies home with you by accident. We were the victims of a very unwise graveyard connection, my house was HOOCHING with spirits afterwards, they were blowing up lightbulbs and generally acting like gate crashers at a party.. People are no more polite on the other side.

Stand your ground.. Polite but no nonsense is the safest way to work with energy. Being rude or disrespectful is not a good idea. We cringe at some TV shows and the ways they try and get results.. Dont aim for a reaction, you may get in trouble. Just be yourself.

Energy is as varied as people are.. Eras and social customs of that time are essential knowledge.. It is common in older places to meet various ghosts from different eras. One particular Sussex village is like a living history lesson, we have never seen as many ghosts anywhere.

Read a bit of history, know the era of the property, respect the ideals of that time.

Modern ghosts can be a pain in the butt to work with. These spooks have not got the experience to use their energy to connect properly, if you want safe recordable ghost hunting evidence then aim for older energy. Modern ghosts will connect but are not good at it, there are exceptions to this rule. These energies will queue up to work with the living because they think you will pass on info to their living relatives and loved ones, even if you dont know them. They are clumsy and can cause problems without realising it.

Use common sense, fear will hinder results, over confidence or scepticism can lead to trouble. If you go ghost hunting then you want proof, enjoy it.. We have had such a good laugh with some energies over the years, we have also met some awful ones. The paranormal is a learning curve and you may experience some extreme things..

Never dabble with the paranormal WITHOUT A TRAINED HEALER PRESENT.. Possession is fairly common in active hauntings, healers and proper preparation prevent this happening. Ghost hunting is safe if done properly. Sensitive people and mediums are the ones that will bring information through, these are the people that connect with energy and need to use psychic protection methods.

Dont connect with bad energy.. Unpleasant people are not worth talking to in general. Why talk to unpleasant dead people? They are probably still not that evolved. These energies get stuck in time and screaming banshee hauntings, jail hauntings etc fall into this group. Interesting to film or watch BUT not good to connect with.
